Pursuant to California Business & Professions Code Section 6400 and California SB 1418, Independent Paralegals are now officially classified as Legal Document Assistants (LDA's.) LDA's are subject to equivalent educational and training criteria as Paralegals. In addition, LDA's are required, by California law, to be Registered and Bonded in the county of their principal place of business. An LDA is an experienced and highly trained professional who is authorized to prepare legal documents for, and at the direction of, the client.
